EFSP PHASE 42 AWARD ANNOUNCEMENT AND INFORMATION

Jennings County has been notified that it will be awarded a total of $ 8980 in federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds for Phase 42, as appropriated by Congress through the Department of Homeland Security fiscal year 2024 funding. Applications from qualified organizations are due by January 31, 2025. News Release

Local Training- At least two representatives from each LRO must participate in LRO training online each phase.

Unique Entity ID (UEI) Required- a UEI is a 12-character alphanumeric ID assigned to an entity by SAM.gov required to recieve federal funds. *

Spending Period Phase 42 spending period begin and end date options for all funded jurisdictions will be provided by national at a later time and the local board will determine the local spend dates at that time.

Jennings County has been notified that it will be awarded a total of $ 8980 in federal Emergency Food and Shelter Program (EFSP) funds for Phase 42, as appropriated by Congress through the Department of Homeland Security fiscal year 2024 funding.

The National Board consists of the U. S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA); American Red Cross; Catholic Charities, USA; National Council of the Churches of Christ in the USA; The Jewish Federations of North America, The Salvation Army; and United Way Worldwide. A Local Board comprised of representatives of these National Agencies is charged with distributing funds appropriated by Congress to help supplement food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the country. Any nonprofit, faith-based or local government agency that provides food and shelter services may apply for funds in all phases. Interested agencies must submit an application to the Local Board in the jurisdiction where they are providing services.

The Local Board will determine how the funds awarded to Jennings County are to be distributed among local qualifying agencies. The Jennings County Emergency Food & Shelter Program (EFSP) Board is encouraging local agencies that meet requirements to apply for the funds. To qualify, local agencies must: 1) be private voluntary non-profit or unit of government, 2) be eligible to receive Federal funds, 3) have an adequate accounting system, 4) practice nondiscrimination, 5) have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs, and 6) if they are a private voluntary organization, have an active voluntary board of directors.

EFSP funds must be used to supplement food and shelter services and may not be used as seed money for new programs. The key responsibility of participating organizations is to provide assistance within the intent of the program. Agencies may receive funds to provide food, shelter and supportive services, including, but not limited to:

  • Food services, such as congregate meals or groceries;
  • Lodging in a mass shelter, or in a hotel/motel or other off-site shelter facility limited to 90-days assistance per individual or household;
  • Rent or mortgage assistance up to 90 days (3 months) if it necessary to maintain housing, prevent eviction or foreclosure;
  • Utility assistance for up to 90 days (3 months) ofservice for gas, electric and water service, if it is necessary to prevent disconnection of services ;
  • Supplies, including but not limited to cleaning supplies, and small equipment essential to feed or shelter people, not exceeding $300 per item;
  • and Administrative funding, if approved by the Local Board.

  • Local agencies interested in applying must participate in required LRO training and the application must be completed online. The deadline for applications is firm. Late applications are not considered.
